If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you know we’re adding a front porch to our home! I’m SO excited to have an awesome outdoor space for our family to enjoy together.
While putting a front porch on our house is definitely the biggest spring prep project we’re doing, there are a few other things we’ve had done around the house that have made a major difference in our home to prep for spring and summer.
Keep scrolling – I need your help with a design decision!
Like I mentioned here (our mudroom reveal!), I’m also very excited to work with Hoffmann Brothers. They’re a local St. Louis company who has been serving the St. Louis area for over 40 years and Hoffmann Brothers can handle almost anything you need
We recently had a tech out to our home as part of our new Home Protection Plan, which covers HVAC, plumbing, electrical, appliance repairs, and drains and sewers – basically, anything that could go wrong in your house, Hoffmann can fix! The Home Protection Plan benefits include a 15% discount on repairs, 5% discount on installations, priority service (within 24 hours for emergencies!), other reduced fees, 2 annual tune-ups and free filters for life – get details here.
Thankfully we have the Home Protection Plan, because one of our air conditioner units had zero freon in it… #HELP! I had no idea because we hadn’t turned it on for the season, but there was a leak somewhere in the piping (it was installed by someone who wasn’t Hoffmann!). Our Hoffmann tech, Tom, spent twice as much time as he had anticipated fixing our A/C unit and explained everything as he was working, which I so appreciated.
As a mom, I *REALLY* value a company who sends people I trust to be in and around my house, as well as people who are totally transparent in what they’re doing and how much it will cost.
Spring prep list for your home
Stuff that you need to do… or have done… hint hint, call Hoffmann!
Prep for good indoor air quality
If you’re an allergy sufferer (hi, everyone in St. Louis), you can’t escape the pollen outside but you can prep your home for clean air indoors. You can do this by replacing your HVAC air filters often – this improves their efficiency and the air quality inside your home. Generally, heating and air conditioning unit filters can use a replacement every 30-days. Hoffmann Brothers also has products like air cleaners and air scrubbers that can help with the quality of the air in your home as well – we have an air scrubber and the technology is incredible.
Schedule your A/C tune up to have your air conditioner cleaned
For at least six months of the year in St. Louis, people do not use the air conditioner. While the AC unit isn’t being used, it’s collecting dirt, dust and possibly a residue. Late spring / beginning of summer is the best time to schedule air conditioning maintenance to make sure you’re breathing in cool, clean air and also to maximize your AC’s cooling efficiency AND stretch the life of your AC. You 100% want to have maintenance done before you’re stuck with a broken unit when its 100+ degrees in July!
check your sump pump
STL is definitely wet in the spring, so if you have a sump pump, double check that it’s functioning properly.
make sure outdoor drains are cleared of leaves/debris
Cleaning out your gutters makes sure that water can flow easily without clogging and/or overflowing.
Our Front Porch
Now that all the hard work is done and the inside of our house is all set for spring, we’re ready to deck the new front porch with ALLTHETHINGS. But I need your help to choose an outdoor rug – I narrowed it down to a short list of 10… #indecisive – and I need your help to pick!
Below I have our outdoor space elements – lighting, furniture, brick, shutter, and front door color – in a ‘moodboard’. But I have 10 different versions so you can vote on which rug you like best!

Love how you think (and plan!) I am the same way.
Do you use an app when you do mood boards or do you just use Adobe Photoshop or a program like that? I need recommendations!
