We have ceiling fans in almost every room of our house and in general, they’re great. Except for when they are NOT pretty and add a gross yellow glow to the room. Here’s an easy $30 ceiling fan makeover that you HAVE to try if you have ceiling fans that don’t fit your aesthetic or are just downright ugly.
If I had to describe our house, I would say the style is modern farmhouse with touches of industrial; lots of greys, mixed metals and neutrals. While we haven’t made tons of structural updates, I have changed the light fixtures throughout – an easy, affordable, impactful change, for sure!
In Quinn’s room (see the reveal here), there was an outdated, old ceiling fan that cast a dark yellow light on the entire room. Not exactly the look I was going for… but I was surprised at how easy a ceiling fan makeover was. All I did was update the fan glass and bulbs and, voila!
I ordered this set of 4 pieces of fan glass – you just measure the inside of the opening of the old fan glass (aka the diameter) and choose a new set based on whatever the width is. Mine were 2.25 inches but yours may be different, so definitely double check.
Since my new glass was going to be WAY more transparent than my old, I also ordered new bulbs. I’m a HUGE fan of Edison bulbs and have them all over my house but the new glass shades weren’t quite long enough for a typical Edison, so I ordered a set of these little cuties, that still have the Edison look with a shorter, rounder shape. Amazon is my go-to spot to order all my Edisons, you cannot beat the price.
Here’s what we used to makeover our ceiling fan + a couple other awesome pieces:
The end result is SO much better, don’t you think?!
