You know I love a good simmering stovetop potpourri for the holidays, so I figured I’d attempt some fall stovetop potpourri and it did NOT disappoint! Not sure why I didn’t try it sooner ;).
I usually make my holiday potpourri jars as gifts so also wanted to see how this ‘recipe’ worked in a mason jar, ready to gift a neighbor, teacher, friend or neighbor, and – spoiler – it worked like a charm!
Of course I didn’t want to run to the store to grab any of the supplies #becausekids so Walmart+ to the rescue! My location offers free delivery from your store on orders of $35+ (restrictions apply), which is amazing for busy moms.
Almost anything you can find in stores can be delivered from your store to your door as fast as same-day, at the same everyday low prices we all love.

I ordered everything I needed for the simmering fall stovetop potpourri and the prices were the SAME as in-store and delivered to my door!
Simmering Fall Stovetop Potpourri Ingredients
You do NOT have to measure it out, but this is exactly what I used to fill a 32 ounce mason jar that I then dumped into this 2 quart saucepan. I finally bought this one to dedicate to my stovetop potpourris so I’m not simmering in the same saucepans we use for cooking.
- 1 apple, sliced
- 2 tangerines, sliced
- 1/2 lemon, sliced
- 1 teaspoon whole cloves
- 1 teaspoon apple pie seasoning
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 sprinkle pumpkin pie spice
- 1 splash apple cider
You can use ANY combination of any of these ingredients, no worries if you’re missing one or two! Or if your measurements aren’t exact – the beauty here is that you can’t mess this up! I had all these ingredients delivered from Walmart+ same-day :).

How to Simmer the Fall Stovetop Potpourri
Just pour the ingredients into a saucepan OR a slow cooker and bring to a simmer. Add fresh water as the liquid evaporates. One jar will last for several days, turn off the heat when unattended.

Do I add water to pot at beginning? The splash of cider doesn’t seem like enough liquid.

Yes! Sorry forgot that detail š

How do you store it / how long does it keep in a mason jar? If I want to prep a few scents how would you recommend I do that?
