As you know, we’re in the middle of a MAJ renovation. Our master bathroom was BAD… just not my style. We had a tub/shower combo that we didn’t need (never ever took a bath in it over 5+ years) and the bathroom was DARK. No windows, 2 bad pendant lights, and a dark floor coupled with a dark vanity and black countertops and it was just kind of dark & dreary in there. Here’s the before:
For the remodel, we aren’t planning to fundamentally change the setup or function of the room. We’re replacing the existing bathtub/shower combo with a floor to ceiling tiled shower with 2 showerheads. We’re also adding a skylight, which I’m most excited about – LET THERE BE LIGHT!!!
We did get rid of a linen closet that butted into the bathroom (you can see it in the very far left corner of the pic above) but was utilized via the hallway (we didn’t lose it, just moved it). And that allowed us a straight 10-foot wall for a larger vanity. I ended up choosing a 6-foot double vanity that I really love because it has some awesome storage functionality in it (I’m dying over this setup) but my contractor is concerned that it will look too wimpy with two 2-foot empty spaces on either side.
So now I’m second guessing what to do – choose a larger vanity? Embrace the space and add a mirror, faux plant, hang towels, do a little stool, a trashcan, a pretty hamper? Or… I have another idea that I kind of love… 2 separate single vanities? Take a look at the finishes I’ve chosen and a few vanity options and then vote below!
sink faucets // shower hardware // floor tile // shower floor tile // sconces // wall tile // double vanity
And now… help me decide!
Master Bathroom Layout Option One
Use a 72″ vanity centered on the 10-foot wall and have 2 feet on either side. I don’t hate this but I am a little concerned about the space on the sides. This is the vanity I chose because I love the look as well as the storage options (seriously, look at this!). I have 3 sconces on the vanity wall as well.
Master Bathroom Layout Option Two
This is a new idea that I am liking… two separate 36″ vanities next to each other but evenly spaced along the wall. See the inspiration here. I like these but would look for something a little less expensive :). Again, 3 sconces on the vanity wall.
This is gorgeous, right?! Not necessarily this style but the look of a ‘set’.
Master Bathroom Layout Option Three
Option 3 is the same as 1 but with about 8 inches added to the vanity, making the room on the sides a little over a foot and a half. This design has an 80″ vanity centered on the 10-foot wall. I haven’t chosen an 80-inch vanity option yet :).
Master Bathroom Layout Option Four
A variation of option 2 with 2 separate 36″ vanities next to each other but with a small linen cabinet (how pretty is this?) added on the 10-foot wall.
Master Bathroom Layout Option Five
Another riff on option 1… 72″ vanity (the one I like!) plus a linen cabinet.
Alright… time to vote! Which vanity setup?

I love all of the elements you picked for your master bathroom — I’d love to see how it turned out!

It seems to me that one large vanity will look more luxurious than two separate ones. Anyway, the result must be awesome!
