We’ve lived in our house for a couple years but there are still spaces that aren’t quite done. When we moved in, we only had one child. Fast forward a few years and two more kids, and space is certainly filling up.
One space that was driving me nutso was the kids’ bathroom. We have a shared hall bath and it’s great for kids – the owners before us incorporated several great kid-friendly touches, including a pull-out step in front of the sink, a built-in kid-potty seat, and double sinks, one of which is a farmhouse sink big enough to bathe a baby. We also have these great big medicine cabinets, perfect for storage… but ours were a hot mess of junk stuffed in. Literally every time we would open the cabinet, stuff would fall out. One afternoon later, we’re back in business – here’s my easy cabinet makeover + a couple of our kids’ medicine cabinet must-haves:
I started by emptying the cabinet and painted the back of the mirror with chalkboard paint. That was an epic fail… the paint looked terrible, uneven and just not good. Definitely user error, I’m certain :/ – so I came up with a solid plan B that I’d strongly recommend as a plan A: stick-on chalkboard surface, kind of like Contact Paper. I just cut it to size and stuck it on and it works great. Definitely wish I would’ve started there – lesson learned!
One of our medicine cabinet must-haves is the SoCozy HUSH line of hair products – made especially for sensitive scalps. The HUSH line just launched at Target, aka my favorite place ever – find it in the baby aisles near the skincare. The HUSH collection includes includes Hush Sensitive Serum, Hush Sensitive Foam, Hush Sensitive 2in1 Shampoo/Conditioner, and Hush Sensitive Detangler. We keep two bottles of the detangler in the house at all times – one upstairs in the bathroom and one downstairs for when we’re on our way out the door. It’s our MVP and reduces the hair brushing battles by 97% ;). The 2in1 Shampoo/Conditioner comes with an attached soft brush for the scalp and it *finally* helped us get the 2 week old glitter out of Quinn’s scalp after she attended a princess birthday party gone wrong ;).

I have a medicine cabinet in the wall, so it appearances like a flat mirror. We had to have a medicine cabinet for storage since we opted for a pedestal sink. I love both though because not having counter space forces me to keep it clean, and the medicine cabinet can stock basics like toothpaste and tampons.
