One question I get asked a lot is “what are those carpet things on your stairs?”. Let me back up… 100% of the floors in our house are wood, which I love. But when we moved in 5 years ago, we had a crawling baby and a 72lb English bulldog who had never done stairs before, so leaving them bare wood just wasn’t an option… too much slipping and sliding for everyone involved.
Instead of carpeting the stairs, we added carpet stair treads for wood stairs, which are basically stick on carpet “rugs” for each individual stair. They were super easy to install (I linked the kit we used below) and we’ve had our carpet stair treads for 5+ years with no issues. I love the stair treads because they add grip to the steps and make them easier to climb while also adding a little warmth and style to the staircase.
Basically, you buy the treads and a kit to install them; it’s kind of like a fancy sticker that attaches them to your floor. Unfortunately, the exact stair treads we bought back in 2013 aren’t available anymore but I found some other great stair tread options for you…
