When you have a brand new baby, you will borderline obsess over their eating: are they gaining enough weight, pooping enough, should I wake them to feed, follow their cues? It’s inevitable but rest assured that if you’re thinking about whether or not they’re eating enough, they’re not going to starve to death.
I always thought breastfeeding just required boobs – wrong! For me at least, it requires a lot of extra stuff – you can read my post on breastfeeding essentials here but below is a list of the general things you need on your registry – essentials for feeding baby.
Essentials for Feeding Baby
Drying Rack This works for bottle and pump parts (and wine glasses, I’ve heard…) Be sure to get a couple branches, too.
Basic Highchair You could spend $400 on something like this that will last forever and transform into a chair or you could spend $20 (!!!) on this little number. I went with the $20 option š
Bumbo This thing gets a bad rep from parents who leave their kids in it atop the counter. The perfect “pre-highchair” seat for baby to eat in. Pro tip: get a used one from a resale shop – they’re everywhere!
Nursing Cover You could get by with a big scarf but this is on my list – versatile & so cute!
Bottles Even if you’re nursing, you will eventually have to separate from baby at some point. I like Dr. Brown’s glass bottles – lots of parts to wash but they work well. Yes, they are glass – I’m not a freak about plastic and BPA in general but opted for glass for Cooper. We had plastic for Quinn and I had to throw them away because they were all trashed; the glass will last and isn’t as fragile as you might think.
Bottle Brush Washing bottles is a pain in the ass but these bottle brushes make the process a little less torturous.
Snack Packs You won’t need these little snack holders for awhile but it never hurts to register for the future.
Placemats If you eat out regularly (like us, bad habit), you’ll want these portable little sticky placemats for the table. These are the things I wish I would have invented!
Dishwasher Pack This little thing holds all the little baby bottle parts in the dishwasher.
Little Utensils Again, you won’t need these baby utensils right away but they’re easy to store until the time comes. It will be here sooner than you think š
Bibs Opt for the ones with a “catcher” at the bottom – these are my favorite. A bit more expensive but durable with staying power.
Burp Cloths Spitup happens. Throw one of these on your shoulder at all times.
