As a mom of three kids born in less than five years, I have a little parenting experience under my belt ;). I’ve been lucky enough to receive or purchase everything we’ve needed for all three of my babies. There’s SO MUCH baby gear out there, and if you already have one baby, you likely have a lot of the essentials.
But when you have a second (or third or fourth) baby, there are definitely a few important items you’ll need to tackle life as a mom of multiple kids!
ultimate list of second baby registry essentials:
Gift Ideas for Second Time Moms for Baby
diapers/wipes
Needing diapers and wipes is a given and ALWAYS appreciated by any mom-to-be, first or fourth! these are my favorite for the newborn stage // shop them here
backpack diaper bag
When you have more than one child, you NEED to be hands-free when it comes to toting all the essentials. A crossbody diaper bag or, better yet, a backpack diaper bag, are essentials for moms with multiple kids – this one is SO inexpensive, modern and chic // shop it here
bottles / nipples / pacifiers
Bottles, nipples, and pacifiers (if you’re using them) just don’t last from child to child, so you’ll need new for a second baby. I love to stick with glass baby bottles when I can – they’re more durable than you’d think and I like the idea of avoiding heating plastic when possible… if you go with glass, they’ll hold up for multiple babies, just get new nipples // shop them here
baby carrier
If you don’t have a baby carrier from your first, believe me… you’ll want to wear this baby! this is the ultimate and my all-time favorite // shop it here
second video monitor
It depends on how old your older child is, but there have been times in our parenting careers that we’ve needed a monitor in two different rooms at the same time. I love monitors with apps so you can watch from your phones – this one is under $50! // shop it here
second sound machine
To drown out the sounds of older siblings 😉 – we have multiple of these… the best of the best // shop it here
infant car seat and/or convertible car seat
Chances are, someone is in need of a car seat change and/or upgrade. We actually didn’t need a new infant seat when any of my not-first babies were born, but in both situations, my older children needed new convertible seats. So don’t be afraid to ask for a seat, even if it’s not for your brand-new baby. // shop my favorite convertible car seat here
Humidifier
Murphey’s law of parenting says that if you don’t have 2 humidifiers, you will 100000% need 2 humidifiers. do yourself a favor and get one for every bedroom in your house // shop it here
Baby Towels / Wash Cloths
These are another category that you *might* need more of or new when you have another babe. Hands-down, hooded towels are the way to go. // shop them here
Nursing ‘stuff’
If you’re nursing, you’ll want to refill on stuff like lanolin, breast pads, and soothies. One thing that I SWEAR BY and didn’t discover until my 3rd baby, is prescription APNO (all-purpose nipple ointment) – my lactation consultant recommended it (I wasn’t having major issues, just standard discomfort) and it was a freaking GAME CHANGER. If you’re planning on nursing, ask for the APNO.
Double umbrella stroller
Even if you’re older child(ren) aren’t babies or even toddlers anymore, a double stroller is CLUTCH. I am obsessed with the UPPAbaby G-LINK umbrella double stoller – it has 2 independent reclining seats that work from birth-55lbs, a huge basket underneath for hauling ALLTHETHINGS, and independent canopies with extendable, pop-out UPF 50+ sunshades. I also love that it’s slim enough to easily fit in my trunk and also stands up when folded for tight spaces like restaurants or public transportation. // shop it here
Gift Ideas for Second Time Moms for themselves
Grocery delivery subscription
this isn’t a necessity but it IS a very nice bonus ;). you can shop for groceries from her phone and have them delivered, no packing a baby/toddler/child/any combination of those 😉 // get an Instacart subscription here
Birthstone jewelry
This is another ‘nice-to-have’ nonessential but still super special for a mom of multiple kids. // shop it here
Wine
This really needs no explanation… 😉 but, trust me, drop off a bottle of the good stuff.
Coffee
A gift card to her favorite coffee shop – the one with the drive through – is an easy, thoughtful, always-appreciated gift for a new mom of multiple kids
Tablets for older kids
This is kind of a luxury and maybe controversial, but it is nice to have a secret weapon for days when it’s just crazytown USA with a new baby and kids running around the house // shop our favorites here
Easy snacks/ goodies for older kids / mom
A meal is ALWAYS appreciated, better yet if it’s a zero prep freezer meal. But snacks or small gifts to keep the older child(ren) busy are also very much needed and such a thoughtful gesture.
House cleaning session
What mom – of a newborn or not – wouldn’t want a cleaning session? Truly one of the best gifts.
Personalized and/or Monogrammed Items
It’s true that second babies get a lot of hand-me-downs, so getting something sweet and personalized or monogrammed for the new baby is a super nice gift.
Massage
Not everyone loves massages, so definitely know your audience, but many new moms would love an hour escape to get a stress-relieving massage. Bonus if you also offer to watch the baby ;).
Baby Sitting
PLEASE offer to take her older child(ren) off her hands for a few hours so she can rest and soak up time with the baby while the older kids get out of the house to do something fun :). BEST GIFT EVER!

Hmm- good question. Amazon does automatically add each item to a category. You can then change the category (go to the registry, find the item, click edit, choose an option from the drop-down menu under category.) But I just looked at my registry on my phone, and it’s doing exactly what you described- putting everything in order added, and not categorizing it in any way. You have the option to sort by category on a computer, and I don’t see that option on my phone. I don’t remember that being a problem before. Maybe it’s a glitch on mobile that will go away in a few days? I’m not sure. That’s frustrating- I’m sorry. ://www.thebabycarepedia.com/amazon-baby-registry/
